If you’re looking to find a vegan cafe in Tokyo with a cosy vibe, I have some great news! I recently visited Vegan Cafe PQ’s and fell in love with the space, food and friendly staff.
PQ’s is a fully vegan cafe that opened in 2018. Now located in Taito, they are known for their colourful and beautifully presenting curry, incredible selection of desserts and friendly and inviting atmosphere.
It’s a little further out of Tokyo than you may like but, don’t let that put you off from visiting because it’s SO worth the visit, let me tell you more!
At a glance:
V/VO: 100% vegan
How to order: via QR code or a waiter can take your order
Payment: Card and cash accepted- payment at the end
Reservation required?: No, but you can reserve a table online
The space
Located on a quiet street, 11 minutes by foot from the closest train station, you’ll find PQ’s, an LGBTQ+-friendly cafe where everyone is welcome!
The cafe is one big open space that is so warm and inviting. Filled with wooden furniture, lots of green plants, artwork along the wall, many books on the shelves, and a large floor-to-ceiling window that lets lots of natural light in, it’s very boho and cosy. They even have a spinning disco ball that shines rainbow light onto the walls.
It reminded me of this cute vegetarian cafe in Tokyo, but on a much larger scale!
Help yourself to the water from the jug and don’t worry about ordering if you can’t speak Japanese as the staff are able to speak English here too.
Food at Vegan Cafe PQ’s
PQ’s is known for its colourful art-like curry. For Halloween this year they used vibrant yellow rice and made a purple curry roux, filled with little illustrated ghosts. All the food here is very eye-catching and Instagrammable – much like the impressive vegan parfaits from Wired Bonbon!
They use natural ingredients and spices from around the world to create the dishes. Keep an eye out on their Instagram as the curry is seasonal. What exciting curry will they make next?!
They are open 5 days a week but they don’t serve curry on Wednesdays, so make sure to keep that in mind if you want to try it.
Don’t be like us, who didn’t research beforehand and didn’t get to try the curry… although we ate some tasty desserts so, we were not complaining. It’s just another excuse to come back to this vegan cafe in Tokyo!
Vegan Cafe PQ’s food menu
At the time I visited, they had three main meals on offer. As well as an incredible selection of sweet desserts which was so difficult to choose from because they all looked so lovely!
Ordering three desserts between two of us, ALL with ice cream was an amazing idea at the time but we left with a sugar rush (haha!).
Looking at the menu, most of the sweets seem to be gluten-free, and they have a “sweets and drink set” which you can get ¥50 taken off your final bill.
Vegan Cafe PQ’s drink menu
They have quite an extensive drink menu at Vegan Cafe PQ’s, with many options no matter if you want a hot or cold drink.
What milk is available at Vegan Cafe PQ’s?
They have two alternative milks available here, oat milk and Bonsoy Soy milk (an organic and GMO-free soy milk).

Let me show you what we ordered from PQ’s ↓
Ice on Pudding
プリンアイス
This was one of the first things I saw from PQ’s Instagram which immediately made me want to visit. I used to eat a lot of purin as a child in Japan so this was very nostalgic for me.
It’s soft, silky and smooth, everything you expect from a purin (or creme caramel) and topped with their homemade ice cream, it was SO delicious!

Price: Without ice cream: ¥660 (£3.51/ $4.43) | With ice cream ¥820 (£4.37/ $5.51)
Salted Caramel pancake with ice cream
塩キャラメルアイスパンケーキ
Because one thing wasn’t enough for me, I just had to order these pancakes too ?The pancakes are so exceptionally fluffy, made from brown rice flour, not only are they gluten-free but they have a delightful chew to them.
They’re warm, fluffy, soft and so perfectly paired with their homemade vanilla ice cream – surprisingly very filling too.
The last time I had vegan pancakes was at Komeda is. They have really hit the nail on the head when it comes to fluffy vegan pancakes in Japan because each stack has been amazing!
Price: ¥880 (£4.69/ $5.91)
Ice cream Cookie Sandwich
アイスサンド
If it wasn’t for Jonny, I never would have tried this ice cream sandwich. Looking at the selection of desserts, it wouldn’t have been my top choice, but boy am I glad we ordered it.
The homemade vanilla ice cream is sandwiched between two oat cookies filled with brown rice flour, oats, pumpkin seeds and cacao nibs. It’s mouth-wateringly good and perfect for anyone who has a sweet tooth like me.
The cookie has a slightly crumbly texture like most oat cookies tend to do. It’s maybe even my favourite thing we ordered from Vegan Cafe PQ’s, but it’s very difficult to choose. This and the purin are my two favourite things we ordered.
Price: ¥660 (£3.51/ $4.43)
Black Sesame Latte
黒ごまラテ
I like coffee and I like sesame but I didn’t like this. I was curious about this grey-coloured drink, but, I couldn’t taste any coffee, just a milky sesame-flavoured drink. Unfortunately it was not my favourite.
You might like it, but If you’re after drinks you wouldn’t normally get at home, I would try The Matcha Tokyo instead for some yummy organic matcha!
Price: ¥730 (£3.89/ $4.90)
